2024 Fender Japan J Precision Bass MIJ

This is a rare opportunity to get hold of on of these Japanese market only signature basses! This is the Fender J Precision in black gold finish and it oozes quality, the specially designed pickup sounds fantastic with plenty of mids. It feels a very solid bass with even better than usual components form Fender Japan! The bass is in as new condition and has not been used, with the plastic still on the pickguard. We have given the bass a full check over, including the truss rod and electrics, all works perfectly.

‘LUNA SEA is a rock band that enjoys immense popularity in Japan and other Asian countries. Their bassist, J, has been using various Precision Bass® instruments for many years.

Among these is the “Black Gold” made by Greg Fessler, a Master Builder at Fender Custom Shop, who has placed tremendous trust in the guitar on stage and in recordings since he acquired it. In 2020, it was released in a limited edition of only 25 units with the exact same specifications as the guitar used by Fessler, and became a hot topic.

Fender Japan have released a signature bass model, the “Made in Japan J Precision Bass® Black Gold,” which inherits these specifications and is made in Japan.

Not only does it feature a reverse head design that expresses J’s philosophy on music, but it also reproduces the original color, Black Gold, that J, who loves motorcycles, was inspired by a vintage helmet from the 1970s. This color looks different depending on the angle, and it creates various impressions depending on the stage lighting.

The one-piece maple neck, profiled by the Custom Shop, features a 7.25-inch radius, narrow tall frets, and a nut width of 42mm, which maintains the grip of the ’50s, allowing for smooth playing even during long stage performances.

In terms of sound, the combination of an ash body and the J Custom P Bass® Pickup, newly developed for this model, outputs a rich midrange that doesn’t get lost even when driven.

This is J’s signature model, with no compromises in looks, feel, or sound. As proof of this, the neck plate is engraved with J’s trademark, Maria.’
